Scents and tastes of May

pistacchio-almond_casa_rosa_etnaHow beautiful it is the month of May in Sicily, so colourful and rich of scents.
It is the time of the first swims, the first days spent lazing in the sun by the sea and definitely the time of the first summer delicacies.

For us May is also the month of the first granitas and, along with them, of the first dilemma…lemon, pistachios, strawberries, almonds or black mulberries? Every time I can’t choose which to pick!

I’ve asked the guests of Casa Rosa which are the tastes they prefer: almond and pistachio without doubt. During the years they have also created a list of their favourite spots to eat granita in the environs: Bar Papotto in Sant’Alfio; Antica dolceria dell’Etna if you are in Zafferana Etnea; Bam Bar in Taormina where you can try a stunning mulberries granita; and last but not least Condorelli in Acireale, where the almond takes over the show.

But in my memories the best granite taste is apricots.

We used to harvest the fruits in the early morning and then make the granita adding only water and sugar and blending it while in the deep freeze until we got the right consistency.
This year the guests that will come to Casa Rosa in May will find our apricot trees loaded with delicious fruits! We are waiting for you!
